Import, Export & Backups

Use backups and exports proactively so data movement and recovery are safe and repeatable.

Applies to: 0.1.0-beta.1Last updated: February 2026

Formats at a Glance

  • .canto: encrypted single-note export
  • .cwsp: encrypted workspace export
  • Markdown/HTML/PDF: portable sharing formats

Backup Routine (Recommended)

  1. Enable backup settings and choose a destination you trust.
  2. Run automatic backups on a predictable cadence.
  3. Before major refactors, run one manual backup.
  4. Test restoration periodically so recovery is verified, not assumed.

Import Guidance

Import in small batches first, validate result quality, then continue for large datasets.

Recovery Guidance

If data looks missing, stop writing new content immediately and follow troubleshooting recovery steps before further changes.
